Could you hold the hand of a stranger?

Some people who come into hospital may not have anyone to visit them. It may be because they have no family, or they may have friends and family who live far away or who can’t be with them all the time. Sadly, this means that some people may die without
someone holding their hand.

Could you be a Companion to them?

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board are working with Marie Curie and Helpforce to develop an end of life Companion Volunteer Service.

Spending time with patients and their relatives, we are looking for compassionate Companion Volunteers to provide emotional support, a listening ear and to simply be there for people at this difficult time.

In return we will offer you:

  • An exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative service that will make a real difference to people
  • An induction, training, support and supervision in your role
  • Out-of-pocket expenses
  • An excellent opportunity to build on your skills in a health care environment

If you could be a Companion or would like more information, please contact the Person Centred Care Team
