Covid 19 Temp Fleet Support Volunteers East Midlands Ambulance Service

Submitted by Debra Dudley, East Midlands Ambulance Service

The East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) Temporary Covid-19 Response Volunteers all approached EMAS during the Covid-19 pandemic offering to help in any way they could. They worked alongside our Fleet Support staff members to 'keep-the-lights-on' ensuring that vital equipment is available for our road crews and emergency colleagues 24/7

We would like to offer our thanks to these volunteers for their support and commitment to the organisation. The volunteers all approached EMAS offering support, and undertook a 'fast-track' induction and training process to get them into the organisation as soon as possible.

The volunteers fitted into the organisation beautifully, and employed colleagues comment that they have been a huge help. This team works alongside EMAS Fleet colleagues to support the distribution of between approximately 9,000 and 10,000 pieces of PPE per week.

Teams arrive between 0700-0800 am, load up vehicles with a range of PPE and then drive out to hospitals and ambulance stations across the East Midlands to make sure that colleagues can access fresh stocks of PPE daily, returning to base between 1500 – 1600.

This team has been working seven days a week consistently since March 2020.
