Trustees and Associate Trustees
As the UK’s only charity solely dedicated to advancing high-impact volunteering across healthcare, Helpforce is seeking passionate, skilled, and diverse individuals to help shape its future and amplify impact.
Over the past nine years, Helpforce has built a formidable reputation for delivering innovative, evidence-based volunteering programmes that improve the lives of patients, staff, and volunteers. Partnerships with over 100 NHS and VCSE organisations have enabled the organisation to co-design and embed solutions that address some of the most pressing challenges in healthcare. From the award-winning Back To Health programme - supporting over one million people across the UK - to the pioneering Volunteer to Career initiative, which helps volunteers transition into fulfilling NHS roles, Helpforce’s work continues to demonstrate the transformative power of volunteering.
The charity is now looking to strengthen our Board with new Trustees who bring a broad range of skills, experiences, and perspectives. Applications are particularly welcomed from individuals with backgrounds in volunteer leadership, the VCSE and healthcare sectors, NHS clinical practice, and public affairs. Above all, those with a passion for volunteering and community impact are sought.
This year also marks the introduction of an Associate Trustee role - a non-voting position without the same legal liabilities as Trustees. We are seeking Associate Trustees who bring specific expertise to Board discussions, for example direct experience of healthcare volunteering, as well as individuals from a broad range of backgrounds who hold a desire to contribute to strategic leadership. They will receive mentoring and play an active part in Board discussions, helping to shape the future of Helpforce and the sector.

About Helpforce
Helpforce has existed since 2017, and in that time we’ve managed to shift understanding about the potential of volunteers to help patients and staff in hospital and in the community. And we continue to work with organisations at national, regional and community level to optimise the role of volunteering.
We do this by:
- Partnering with organisations to develop and grow impactful volunteering services
- Capturing and sharing insights about volunteering – building understanding of how to set up excellent volunteering services and making the case for growing those services
- Persuading leaders to invest in volunteering
Helpforce is a great organisation to work for if:
- you care about our NHS and health and social care organisations and how effective they are in providing essential care and treatment
- you want to play a part in creating more evidence and awareness about how important volunteers are in health and care
- you are an adaptable person and passionate about making a difference
- you want to work for an organisation that empowers and supports its team to fulfil their responsibilities, encouraging flexibility and initiative
