I've worked with Wales Council for Voluntary Action since 2003, in the volunteering team. I was responsible for the Investing in Volunteers programme in Wales, and have worked on volunteering policy, and the development and delivery of training and information resources. In 2018 we launched an all Wales volunteering database, volunteering-wales.org which is managed by county voluntary councils in each county, and free for volunteer involving organisations to use. I'm currently Helpforce Cymru Manager and work closely with Helpforce colleagues as well as with colleagues in Third Sector, Third Sector Support Wales, Welsh Government and Health and Social Care organisations. I have a post graduate degree in nutrition and worked for a period in Health Promotion in rural Powys. Married to a welshman, learning welsh was part of the deal - and has come in very useful since!

I have been managing volunteers for over 17 years, more recently at Queen's Hospital an King George Hospital in Essex for the past 5 years and 12 year at the Whittington Hospital, in North London. I have been part of many great initiatives and have a wealth of knowledge in terms of the intricacies when managing volunteers who will all be different and their motivation different. Managing volunteers is a very specialised skill set, often not really understood until you have experienced it yourself. Working with volunteers is a real honor, and always a very beneficial relationship and experience.

Hi, I am the Volunteer Development Manager at Dorothy House Hospice near Bath, Somerset. We have over a thousand volunteers with approximately 350 supporting the hospice in a range of roles from befriending and bereavement support to therapies, spiritual care and chaplaincy as well as gardeners and administrators. We have 25 shops across our area and approximately 700 volunteers in retail. Volunteers are line managed within teams and with my team, I have overall responsibility for recruitment and the volunteer journey with our organisation.
