I have been a volunteer in the West Suffolk Hospital Eye Treatment Centre for 10 years. I work on average 4 shifts a week in the AMD Eye Injection Clinic.

I know from the reactions of patients and staff that my input is very helpful and much appreciated by all concerned. I also know that my involvement reduces the stress and anxiety for many of our patients , particularly at their first attendance.

That said, I am an 88 year old widower also benefit greatly from the pleasure of being part of a team and doing something worthwhile with my time. We are all winners from volunteering in the NHS.
