We’re working to shape the future of health and care through volunteering
Helpforce are at the forefront of a national movement to improve the lives of NHS staff, patients and our communities through the power of volunteering. Backed by leading lights in the world of healthcare, we’re bringing together innovative thinking and trusted experience to make community-integrated healthcare the norm across the UK.
To deliver our vision across the UK:
- We’re working with hospitals, healthcare workers and you to create the future of volunteering within the NHS.
How? With our devoted team, we’re building a Learning Network, creating frameworks and measuring the impact of volunteering in our hospitals.
- We’re scaling capacity for volunteering in the NHS for when we have the time to give, and when we find ourselves in need.
How? By working with partners and NHS Trusts we’re promoting the benefits of volunteering for all involved – helping them expand the range and quality of volunteer roles that are available.
- We’re making sure that health and care begins before you set foot in the hospital
How? Safe and reliable volunteers to navigate and accompany patients through their healthcare journey. Whether it’s a helping patients get up and mobile, collecting medications to support clinical staff or simply making a welcome cup of tea – there’s no end to the ways volunteers can make a difference.
The state, in organising security should not stifle incentive, opportunity, responsibility; in establishing a national minimum, it should leave room and encouragement for voluntary action by each individual to provide more than that minimum for himself and his family
Sir William Beveridge, social reformer and author of The Beveridge Report
Meet our team
Our enthusiastic team are the driving force bringing our vision to life. They bring their wide-ranging skills and experience together with a personal commitment to helping improve the NHS experience for us all.
Our founder’s vision
Helpforce is the creation of Sir Thomas Hughes-Hallett, a philanthropist and health leader. He was previously Chief Executive of Marie Curie, seeing first hand how volunteers can be the beating heart of an organisation. Tom is on a mission to promote the role and value of volunteering within hospitals and will inspire you to #bethehelpforce.
Helpforce is guided and supported by some of the leading lights in healthcare. From Chief Executives of charities to Directors of NHS Trusts, our mission is directed by the expert knowledge and extensive experience of our Board Members and Advisers.
Our work wouldn’t be possible without supporting organisations who share our vision for the future of the NHS and are willing to innovate and share their experiences of embedding volunteering within hospitals.
We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of a growing group of private donors who play a huge role in helping bring compassionate care to the NHS by supporting Helpforce.
