400 mile walk across Spain to raise money for DASH
17th October 2022
Peter has been a volunteer at DASH (Disability and Support Hillingdon) for over 20 years and works tirelessly with their service users by making them smile, giving them support and guidance while taking part in all the activities. At 74 years of age he is now (at the time of writing the entry) taking on the massive month-long challenge of walking 400 miles across Spain to raise money for DASH and has been keeping his colleagues up to date with his progress, witty jokes and the number of blisters he’s acquired.
Peter volunteers at the hub come rain or shine throughout the year often giving 60 - 80 hours a week of his time and is always instrumental in helping to organise any special events. He is so creative and throws himself wholeheartedly into activities, dressing up and helping to make props and decorations for events such as the Jubilee and Halloween parties.
Peter also gets involved in taking the service users on day trips, short holidays and is often a taxi service for the monthly disco, loves teaching the Cha Cha Slide and being in charge of their line dancing sessions. Then there are the many quiz nights and includes being the banker in the Deal or No Deal event. He has also helped to arrange many sponsored walks around his local town to encourage health and wellbeing and will often support service users one to one with emotional or physical support.
Peter is also a handyman fixing broken items and is often seen up a ladder painting a wall or sorting out the recycling, washing the tea towels and doing the daily washing up. He especially enjoys cleaning up after the messy arts and crafts activities.
Peter is a big part of the DASH family and they hope he will be a part of it for many more years. They also can’t wait to welcome him back from his walk and celebrate his achievement.
