Shooting Star Cancer Unit volunteer is worth his weight in gold.
13th October 2022
Ron Evans is one of our Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Robin volunteers and has been volunteering on the Shooting Star Cancer Unit for over 10 years.
Being diagnosed with Cancer and coming in for treatment can be a very emotional and anxious experience and having somebody like Ron located on the ward has been such a comfort and help to not only the patients but the staff as well. Ron is one of the friendliest, genuinely kind hearted people you will ever meet and he provides much needed companionship to people coming onto the unit helping with drinks and giving out food.
Ron has been nominated for his unfaltering dedication, his selflessness and his commitment by going into the hospital and being there for the patients that are going through a really difficult time in their lives. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Ron, and he goes out of his way to help make people feel better, week in, week out without giving it a second thought.
“He truly deserves to win this award, he is an incredible volunteer and we are very lucky to have in our team.” Katherine Hussey BCUH
“Ron’s contribution to our service has been exceptional, and he is worth his weight in gold. He is compassionate, kind, funny and very supportive of both the patients who attend for treatment and the nursing team here.” Wenna Hammond Uwch Brif Nyrs/Sister
“I have worked alongside Ron since he started volunteering with us many years ago. He is one of life’s genuine people, who treats everyone with respect, and kindness, but also up for a bit of banter. The patients on the unit think the world of him. The place was not the same when he was off during the pandemic. I personally cannot speak highly enough of him. A true gentleman.” Bev Jones Ysgrifenyddes Ward/Ward Secretary
