Network discussion – our open forum

15 March 2023

Thank you to all of you who joined us for this lively session and here are a few snippets from the 45-minute session.

Volunteer management platforms

Better Impact is a very popular platform being used for volunteer management. However, there are some organisations who feel that the data being stored in Canada is an issue.

One organisation on the call is moving over to InPhase which contains a volunteering module. If anyone has any experience of this platform, our guest would be very interested to hear about your experience and any tips you may have.

https://www.inphase.com/

Great news!

Another of our guests was delighted to have been successful with their Volunteer to Career bid and are now part of Cohort 4. Congratulations!

Talent for Care Pilot

Has anyone any experience or knowledge of the Talent for Care Pilot?

Re-engaging with volunteers' face to face

Since Covid volunteers have had little opportunity to meet each other, one of our guests is planning to re-introduce their ‘Face-to-face Volunteer Forum’. A lot of volunteers' love being able to talk to other volunteers and share their experiences. It was also felt that if you planned regular events over the year and had dates in the diary it would be something for the volunteers to look forward to and encourage them to make new like-minded friends.

Digital newsletters

Another guest was delighted to announce that they had produced their first digital newsletter. They used a platform called SWAY which she found easy to use.

SWAY is a Microsoft package. If you have Microsoft, Sway is an easy-to-use digital storytelling app for creating interactive reports, presentations, personal stories and more. Another good one is Mailchimp where you can get up to 2000 subscribers for free.

Volunteers' week

Clinical staff, including the head of nursing at Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, will be shadowing volunteers during Volunteers Week.

ED&I

The conversation touched on ED&I and below are two useful links to more information and a report.

www.acevo.org.uk Report The report is focused on the charity sector, but there are elements that will resonate across sectors.

There is a lot of information about ED&I at work here: https://www.cipd.co.uk/knowledge/fundamentals/relations/diversity/building-inclusive-workplaces

Young peoples’ volunteer programme

A group of young people aged between 8 and 14 years old have been taking part in programme that started in 2022. They come in and volunteer during the school holidays taking part in various roles including Meet and Greet. They also do activities with staff who teach them about the different roles and careers available in the NHS, resuscitation training and get them involved in their green plans.

You can hear more about this project in one of our Spotlight interviews next month

If you have a success story that you would like to share, please contact us at network@helpforce.community and our Comms Team will write the story for you.
