In NHS Trusts what percentage of your volunteers are aged 18 and under or aged 25 and under? We are just interested to make sure we are on the right track.

12% of ours are 16-19, and 9% are 20-24. We are currently looking at the possibility of setting up a programme for 14-16 year olds, as we are frequently contacted by them/their parents looking for volunteering opportunities, usually because they wish to go into a medical career.

@Danielle FaulknerThank you for your reply. That is about the same as us. Yes I am also getting a lot of requests from young people under the age of 16 wanting to volunteer.

We only recruit adults, so no-one below 18ys. Be good to hear how you get around possible complications (like parental consent, risks etc.) when deploying young volunteers.

@Ashleigh KeyThank you. Well done, those are really high percentages. I would be interested to hear what roles your young people do as we struggle to find enough opportunities for them.

@Laura CavinaThank you for your reply. We changed the minimum age for volunteers a few years ago as we employ nurse cadets from the age of 16 so it was felt the volunteering age should match. We do an extra risk assessment for under 18's and also have parental consent.
