We had a wonderful group of network members join us for this discussion supporting, encouraging and sharing ideas. There was also a reminder that they must take care of their own well-being as well as that of their teams.

Team Exercises

Communication: If your team is not communicating very well then bringing them together for a coaching session can be helpful.

Top Tips:

  • Make sure that you know the content of the coaching session and think about how your team would react to some of the exercises to make sure that the session is motivating and not demotivating.
  • If you arrange a group, get together off site, check the location and its suitability. For example, if it’s a coffee shop make sure that you can push tables together, so people don’t naturally divide themselves into their usual groups. Plus, check the noise level, people need to be able to hear each other.

Cutting the red tape: This is about getting the team together and identifying anything that is blocking routes to getting the job done, taking control and removing those barriers. Dealing with issues straight away, for example, a piece of equipment like a photocopier is not working, takes away a buildup of frustration.

Negative vibes:

This can happen in many work situations and can often be difficult to deal with.

Top Tips:

  • Make the working environment as pleasant and comfortable as possible.
  • Regularly check on individuals and make sure that they feel heard, valued and included.
  • Find a team goal. Throwing a challenge out to your team is a good way to get them to work together and create a bond. Ask for their input on how they think the challenge should be approached.
  • Be creative and think out-of-the-box while working with what you have.
  • For something extra contact your community fundraiser at Morrisons or your local supermarket. One lucky trust had a donation of mince pies from their local Morrisons for their ‘Mince Pie Meet Up’ at Christmas.
