Hi,

I was just wanting to know how your Trust's volunteering team was set up.

How many people do you have in your volunteering team and what are their roles, so manager, coordinator, admin?

And roughly how many volunteers you manage.

At Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust we have just relaunched our volunteering programme and there is currently just me, as volunteering officer, band 5, as we look to progress volunteering on a larger scale in the future, i just wanted an idea of what a productive volunteering team would look like.

The volunteering officer part is only a small part of my role, so out of my 30 hour week, no more than 10-15hrs on the volunteering programme.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Our Volunteering Team comes under the Facilities Management at University Hospitals Derby and Burton.

We have in our team,

2 x Full time Co-Ordinators (5)

1 x Part time Co-Ordinator (5)

1 x Part time Admin (3)

We report to the Facilities General Manager so we do not have a manger just for volunteering.

We look after 5 hospitals of which usually have 600 volunteers pre pandemic we are recruiting again to reach that number.

Hope this helps.

Hi

I am the Volunteer Manager for South Central Ambulance Charity.

Currently it is only me, but we will be recruiting for a Volunteer Coordinator very soon.

I have an overview of all volunteers, then each project has a team

So Community First Responders sit under our Community Engagement Team who have a fairly large team.

Our Volunteer Drivers are under Patient Transport Services and have 2 managers and 2 coordinators.

We also have a Volunteering Strategy which South Central Ambulance Service have adopted and we are working towards to grow both the volunteering offer and (hopefully) the team!

@Emma LumaThank you for your reply Emma, we are quite close location wise, with you doing Derby and Burton and me doing Derbyshire.

Wow, 600 volunteers is great, we have just relaunched our volunteer programme, completely re-done it and I have 20 new volunteers starting in October, all going well.

Nice to meet you.

@Sarah CallaghanHi Sarah, i think i saw you today on the Helpforce call.

Thank you for replying.

Yes there is just me in my Trust and i like you, i do not directly manage the volunteers, the service manager where they are placed will manage them. But it is finding volunteers and getting them into a placement that is a lot of work.

It is good to hear you will soon have some support and resource.

I am hoping there will be budget to at least get some admin support but i shall have to wait and see what Board think.

Nice to meet you.

@michelle fisherThe volunteering strategy helped push this forward - it is also how my role was created. The strategy is on our website if you wanted to have a look, and share with your colleagues. Good Luck!
