Developing People – Improving Care identifies five conditions common to high quality systems that interact to produce a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Condition Two states that we need compassionate, inclusive and effective leaders at all levels.

Professor Michael West, Senior Visiting Fellow at The King’s Fund introduces Condition Two and provides an overview of what this means for health and social care. Jane Rook, Acting Associate Director of Organisational Development and Caroline Donovan, Chief Executive at North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust share insight on how North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust has been focusing on inclusion and championing diversity.

We discuss:

  • how can we develop compassionate and inclusive leadership for all staff at every level?
  • how can we embed inclusion in leadership development and talent management initiatives?
  • how does encouraging LGBT and BAME staff lead to wider improvements to an organsation’s culture?

Who should listen?

  • Registered managers in social care
  • NHS band 7 and above
