Ward Assistant Role Description

Department : Clinical

Supervisor : Sister on duty

Location : In Patient Unit

Time commitment: For this role we are looking for a regular commitment of at least 3 hours, once a week. This allows for consistency and ensures that the ward assistants are always fully up to date with clinical working practices and firmly become an established part of the IPU team.

We are looking for caring and compassionate people to assist and support the IPU team with their day to day functional tasks and delivery of patient care at the main Hospice. Consequently, volunteer Ward Assistants will become integral to maintaining the excellent care we provide by creating a safe, friendly, supportive, and welcoming environment for patients, their families and visitors to the In-Patient Unit.

Role Description: To work as part of the clinical team on the Inpatient- Unit ensuring that the supplies and equipment needed by clinical staff is on hand and readily available.

What the role will involve?

  • Practical duties such as stock rotation, organising storage areas, cleaning equipment, restocking equipment & keeping patient areas safe and hazard free
  • Liaising with ward staff to ensure that patients are well nourished and have all their nutritional needs met
  • Communicating feedback or concerns to clinical staff
  • Ensuring that patient bedrooms are ready for new admissions

What kind of people are we looking for?

  • Someone with experience of a healthcare setting or experience of caring for someone with a lifechanging illness
  • Understands the importance of working within clearly defined boundaries
  • Someone that will always demonstrate our values and act as an Ambassador for the Hospice
  • Willingness to abide by the guidelines, policies and procedures of Ashgate Hospice
