We all know nutrition is important to patients’ recovery, but often nursing staff are too busy to sit with patients during mealtime to encourage them to eat, hence patients could miss the crucial meals. At Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, they have developed a service called ‘Dining Companions’ where volunteers can spend time on sitting with patients and encouraging them to finish their meals.

If this is the project that you would like to run at your Trust, you can find out more by downloading this presentation. This includes information on how the project was set up, who needed to be involved, what training that volunteers needed to do, and how they supported patients.

Many thanks to Lucy Boulter, project manager, for sharing these slides with the Network.
