Evidenced Outcome
Cost efficiencies compared to outsourcing transportation
Evidence point
Using a hospital transport unit fee and local Shropshire Council hackney carriage fare as benchmarks, the project is estimated to have generated savings of £86,379.98.
Based on volunteer discharge driver activity between 9 May – 31 October 2025 from Royal Shrewsbury and Princess Royal Hospitals. Hospital transport fees were costed per unit at £180.00. The calculation included the transport of patients only. For non-patient journeys, calculations were based upon Shropshire Council hackney carriage fares.
